1. 小苗本身是去了顶, 中央主干完全被破坏;
2. 根部没有独立包装好, 根系之间互相绞在一起, 或与树干之间纠缠不清;

Dear Station Members,
Before anything else, we wish to welcome our new overseas friends from all around the world to be included into our circulation list. ISA HK/China tends to focus more on China nowadays. We hope you will enjoy what we share. We hope you can understand our English too.
Attached are two sets of China Tree News captured recently.
(A) Bare Root Stocks Transportation
Attached shows a nurseryman was packing & moving his bare root stocks to a buyer somewhere in China.
The young trees were topped, the root system not protected or individually packed, The stocks were stacked as high & as much top to end in layers, to until the lorry bed could not hold anymore.
This is quite a common mode of transportation for bare root stocks in China. Apparently cost is the top priority, quality never mind. Being young trees, many of the stocks would survive on site after planting, but with the tree architecture destroyed & wounds all over. This is so far acceptable in most China landscape.
Arboriculture has not yet begun in China, & ISA HK/China is working hard to try to bring in the modern ideas. Meanwhile, the same transportation mode will continue everyday somewhere in China, & the practice will go on to until the system can consider a change. This will take time.
(B) Roadside Tree Pruning in Beijing
Yes, believe it, the attached photo was taken in the capital city of China, Beijing, only a few months ago. To the western tree professionals, most might exclaim: "What a sight"!
The tree workers were cutting at a height of about 3-4 m from ground where pole saw can reach. No PPE was required. The ladders were not secured. No Fall Arrest System was deployed. The guy on the far right appeared to be operating a chainsaw, & was securing himself on the tree by only using his legs. The Work Zone was not defined & cordoned off, where pedestrians were passing freely below. This is roadside tree pruning, Beijing style.
China differs from the rest of the western world in many things. Tree pruning is just one of them. ISA HK/China has a long way to go to tell our brothers & sisters in their language of how arboriculture is practicing in the rest of the world. 99.9% of Chinese do not speak English. We have a daunting task.
best regards,
